Protect Customers’ Health and Wealth”

High-Tech Design Plumbing & Heating provides commercial and residential customers throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties with a full range of professional plumbing and heating services utilizing licensed technicians. Robert Saylor started the home-based business in 1999 and has built a trustworthy reputation throughout Long Island through referrals and community Facebook pages providing prompt and courteous customer service. The business is also licensed in 41 incorporated villages, 10 towns and two cities on Long Island. High Tech Design prides itself on providing real time appointment updates to clients using GPS tracking and/or cell phone communication with clients, virtual interaction with the owner, and a customer satisfaction follow-up call after each completed job. Customers also send pictures of their plumbing or heating issue via cell phone to Mr. Saylor and receive an estimate on the repair cost. He plans to equip his service trucks with cameras to allow technicians to video chat with him and troubleshoot more difficult problems. He says, “We all know how things have changed over the past couple of years and that has resulted in a state of instant gratification. Being able to communicate with customers using today’s technology is a great tool for the service industry.”
Mr. Saylor completed a plumbing apprenticeship while in high school where he learned how to build water and waste systems. He found the work extremely rewarding and enjoyed the satisfaction of restoring heat to families in need. He also realized a demand for trained technicians in an industry that is currently experiencing a loss in skilled tradesman and began to build his business. To continue fostering the growth and expansion of High Tech Design, Mr. Saylor enrolled in the fall 2019 session of the Entrepreneurial Assistance Center (EAC) 60-hour training program at Hofstra University. Having previously served in the United States Marine Corps, he was awarded a veterans tuition scholarship to attend the program. He completed the EAC in December 2019 and was the first prize winner of the Capital One Bank Pitch Competition. He attested to the benefits of taking the program stating, “EAC gave me a plan to expand my business. The EAC team coached me and showed me how to outline (my idea) and it came out quite well.”
Recognizing the need to train new trade professionals to service Long Island’s aging population of homes, Mr. Saylor plans to incorporate an apprenticeship program to ensure technicians are properly trained to correctly identify plumbing and heating issues and deliver excellent customer service. The program will be geared toward young adults out of high school where they will learn the trade and eventually pass the Master Plumber Exam. Currently, he provides mentorship to his team of technicians on professional conduct and best practices on managing customer relations and resolving their issues.
